Do you have a go-to author that you can count on to get you out of a reading slump? Well, I discovered mine – Collen Hoover. I haven’t read a book of hers that I haven’t enjoyed. So, to get me out of my reading slump that trickled over into my June, I started This Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. But I couldn’t stop there. I needed closure! So, I also finished It Starts With Us by Collen Hoover. To be clear, I finished both in a WEEK. Take that reading slump! So, if you’re trying to get your reading mojo back, I strongly recommend both reads.
It Ends With Us
This book was a page turner right from the beginning. It’s easy to read with easy banter among the main characters. It’s no literary masterpiece but the way Hoover writes makes you fall in love (or out of love) with these characters. I knew it had to be too good to be true, but it was paced perfectly, never making me want to rush to the ending. By the end, my heart hurt for these characters. It left me wanting more. Apparently, so did the rest of the world (hence the sequel).
It Starts With Us
This book was never intended to be written but I’m glad it was. Another page turner but for a different reason. I wanted – no needed – closure. I needed my happy ending. In all honesty, it did feel like an afterthought, lacking the same amount of depth the first book had. I found it redundant in some places, always flashing back to past moments we’ve already uncovered. Still, I’m happy I read it.
